The statue of “Kópakonan” has attracted thousands of tourists since it was raised in 2014. The influx of visitors brought new possibilities for families on the island and prompted on family to open a café to serve visitors hot drinks and food. I have visited the island of Kalsoy and specifically the town of Mikladalur a lot in my teens, so I had a great foundation before starting this project. The folklore of the “Kópakonan,” is quite famous throughout the Faroe Islands, which also helped me design the identity.

Iconography
Before stating the project, I researched the “Kópakonan” statue. An image of the statue can be seen below.

With a gallary of the statue at hand, I traced the statue and tried a lot of different solution, before landing on the stencil-feel, that can be seen below.
Name
The name of the café, namely “Café Eðge,” is a play on the Faroese character “Д which can be pronounced like “edd.” As the challenge stated, I needed to create the identity that took the rough terrain of the island into account. I decided to level the letters, so that it formed a pedestal for the statue to sit on. See the image below.
